Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), innovator in global cruise travel, is setting a new benchmark for contemporary luxury and adventure at sea. As the brand readies for the launch of its newest ship, Norwegian Luna™, in March, and the unveiling of Norwegian Aura™, NCL’s largest, most advanced ship ever, scheduled for 2027, South African travellers now have more reasons to explore the world in style.

With itineraries spanning over 370 voyages and nearly 50 countries in the upcoming winter 2027/28 deployment, NCL is reaffirming its commitment to offering South Africans unmatched flexibility and innovative, memorable journeys, from the sun-drenched Caribbean to the cultural capitals of Europe and the wonders of Asia.

“We are excited to debut two new ships that will set a new standard in comfort and multi-generational travel. Our latest winter deployment opens doors to once-in-a-lifetime experiences across 144 unique destinations,” says Kevin Bubolz, Vice President & Managing Director, Continental Europe, Middle East & Africa.

“The cruise sector is thriving. According to the Cruise Lines International Association 2025 State of the Cruise Industry Report, 2024 saw a record 34.64 million global cruise passengers. Closer to home, the Western Cape Cruise Liner Industry Report, commissioned by Cruise Cape Town and powered by Wesgro, recorded an impressive R1.79 billion contribution to the region’s GDP-R in the 2024/2025 season. There has never been a better time for South Africans to discover NCL’s pioneering spirit, immersive itineraries, and extraordinary onboard experiences,” he added.

Setting a New Course in Contemporary Cruising

The arrival of Norwegian Luna™ in March 2026 and Norwegian Aura™ in 2027 marks a new era for NCL’s Prima Plus Class, and a leap forward in luxury and innovation. Norwegian Luna™, debuting with a maiden voyage from Rome to Miami, is inspired by celestial elegance, with wraparound Ocean Boulevard promenades, infinity pools, and next-level thrills like the exhilarating Aqua Slidecoaster and The Drop freefall slide. Guests can indulge in a world of choice with dedicated solo cabins, expanded dining options like Sukhothai, and serene spaces spanning from the adults-only Vibe Beach Club to the lively Glow Court, an interactive LED sports floor.

Raising the bar even higher, Norwegian Aura™ will not only be NCL’s largest vessel but also set new standards with expanded pool decks, a sprawling Ocean Heights activity zone with five waterslides and adventure attractions, and no fewer than 19 suite types, including NCL’s new 3-Bedroom Duplex Suites. The ship will also feature an array of specialty restaurants, including Cagney’s Steakhouse, Le Bistro, Hasuki, and Los Lobos Cantina.

Both ships feature The Haven by Norwegian®, the line’s most exclusive enclave, offering 24-hour butler service, private infinity pools, and plush staterooms, elevating the experience for guests seeking the utmost in privacy and personalised service.

NCL’s reinvention also extends to the Caribbean, where Great Stirrup Cay, the line’s private Bahamian island, has been recently transformed. Guests on select itineraries will enjoy new amenities, including a dedicated tram system, a multi-ship pier for seamless arrivals, the expansive Great Life Lagoon with swim-up bars and kids’ splash area, and the all-new Great Tides Waterpark, boasting 19 waterslides and debuting in the summer. Enhanced lounging and adventure options combine to create a private island sanctuary befitting the modern traveller.

A Reimagined Brand for a New Era of Cruising

Reinforcing its 59-year legacy of innovation, NCL recently relaunched its iconic tagline, “It’s Different Out Here”, reimagined for today’s experience-driven travellers. This refreshed brand platform embodies NCL’s commitment to authentic moments, freedom, and connection, values woven into every new ship and thoughtfully crafted itinerary.

“At NCL, we know South African travellers are eager for immersive journeys and true flexibility at sea. That’s why we’ve curated our most popular destinations for this market, each offering something special for couples, families, and even solo explorers,” said Bubolz.
