RwandAir (WB, Kigali) will resume scheduled flight operations once the Rwandan government reopens the country’s airspace on August 1, 2020.
The airline said that it plans to restart flights to Cotonou, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Douala, Dubai Int’l, Libreville, Lusaka, and Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta, as well as domestic flights to Kamembe. At many of these destinations, passengers are required to meet various medical requirements, usually related to a pre-departure test for COVID-19.
Selected routes will be served with reduced frequencies in August.
While foreign airlines will be allowed to operate to Kigali as of August 1, Rwanda will require all arriving passengers to present a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of arrival, to undergo a second test at the airport, and to spend around 24 hours in a designated isolation facility at their own cost while awaiting the results of the test taken in Kigali.
In late June, the Council of the European Union approved Rwanda as the only country in sub-Saharan Africa cleared for travel to the bloc. However, the Council’s decision is not binding and all 27 member states are free to set their own border restrictions.
